Bluebell (1959 VW Splitscreen Bus) and Sally (1965 Ford Mustang) at Cissbury Barns.

Cissbury Barns in Findon, West Sussex played host to a full Regency-styled wedding shoot this May — flint walls standing in for a country estate, rose-covered hedgerows doing exactly what rose-covered hedgerows do, and two of our classic wedding cars parked where a footman might once have waited with a carriage. The brief: build a wedding day that looked like it had stepped out of Bridgerton, without losing anything that makes an actual Sussex wedding work.

The Brief

A styled shoot asks more of a wedding car than a real wedding does. There's no ceremony to time around and no guest list to manage — just a morning where twenty-plus suppliers each need their piece of the shot, in the right light, in the right order. HV Weddings coordinated the day, with To Have And To Hire Events and Charm Event Decor styling the setting. Visually Captured Photography and Ellezeta Photography worked the cameras, alongside content creators The Visual Diaries and Bridal Content House. The concept called for pastel Regency romance — powder blues, blush pinks, hand-tied bouquets from Bryony Mae Flowers — and every supplier on site had to hit that palette without it reading as costume.

What Something Blue Brought

We brought Bluebell, our 1959 VW Splitscreen Bus, and Sally, our 1965 Ford Mustang soft-top — both already powder blue, which meant Bridgerton's palette met us halfway before a single flower went on the grille. Both cars were decorated in blush roses and greenery, with trailing ribbon down the wing mirrors. Something Blue dresses cars with flowers and tulle as part of their standard service - with many options to choose from. Bluebell's rear bench, with its original striped curtains, gave the content creators an interior shot that needed no extra dressing beyond the bouquet. Sally's soft top came down for the gravel-drive portraits, with 'Just Married' bunting across the boot doing the job it's done for actual newlyweds since 1965.

Something Blue's Role on the Day

Positioning two cars for a styled shoot is a different job to a wedding day pickup. Sally and Bluebell sat side by side for the arrival sequence, then split — Bluebell staying put against the flint barn wall for the interior shots, Sally moving out to the drive for the departure sequence, top down, for the light. We worked directly with Visually Captured Photography and Ellezeta Photography on angles through the morning, the same way we'd work with any photographer on an actual wedding day: get the car where the light is, then get out of the way.

The Ceremony

Vows were exchanged inside the barn, Chiavari chairs either side of the aisle and a round window doing the polite job Regency stonework does above flint walls. Bryony Mae Flowers set full urns either side of the ceremony space rather than aisle-end posies, which reads better in a barn interior than smaller arrangements would. The exchange was led by one of the day's two celebrant teams — Zoe Jackson Celebrant and Lemonade Ceremonies both spent time with the models that morning — with the same attention to eye contact and pacing a celebrant brings to an actual wedding.

The Reception

After the ceremony, the tables told a different part of the story. Hove Actually Vintage China's gold-rimmed cups and saucers sat under tiered stands from Trula Marie Cakes, scones and berry tarts stacked between candlesticks. Bryony Mae Flowers ran a low floral line down the top table in the same blush-and-cream palette as the cars outside, and Sorella Bridal Accessories' pieces caught the candlelight better than any posed shot could show. It's the Bridgerton afternoon-tea aesthetic done properly — not styled to look old, just laid with china that already is.

Around the Grounds

Away from the ceremony and top table, Bus And Bug's VW-fronted bar carried the day's automotive thread through to drinks service, parked on the terrace with its own trail of blush and white blooms. Mofare Events ran garden games nearby, and Dee Dee Findon's dessert table gave guests a second reason to wander outside between courses.

The Result

Models Charlie and Dean, Becca and Joshua, and Corrina and Adam carried the day's looks — dresses from Cath Adam The Bride Shop and Honora Dresses, hair and makeup from Toni Todd Bridal, Gemma Souter, Sophia Jane MUA and Bridal By Beckah. Vanessa Sergeant sang. It's the kind of set-up you only get on a styled shoot — every supplier a wedding couple would normally book separately, all working the same barn on the same morning.

The Broader Point

A styled shoot tells you nothing about how a car handles a real wedding morning — traffic, timing, a bride running late. What it does show is how a car looks when a florist, a photographer and a content creator all get a full morning with it in good light. Bluebell and Sally held their own.

How to Choose a Wedding Car

The right wedding car comes down to two things: how many people need to travel in it, and how it photographs against your dress and venue.
